Tile types

Since technologies for tile production are being improved and developed, tile selection grows rapidly. Today tiles vary in manyfold ways that simultaneously complicates and simplifies the choice. So, the tiles differ according to:

1. Shape. The most widespread ceramic tiles are of square or rectangular shapes. But they also come in shapes of hexagonal, mauritanian, octagonal etc. Dimensions can differ from a tiny to a large one, which is more preferable today.

2. Surfaces. Tiles can be glazed and non-glazed. Non-glazed tiles are smooth and usually without patterns or decorative covering. Glazed tiles, as a rule, are covered with a layer of colorful glass or different patterns and ornaments. It can sparkle and opalize with different semi-tones.

3. Tile Intended Purpose. Tiles can be used for finishing of internal and external side of walls and floors.

4. Methods of Tile Production: compression and extrusion. Compressed tiles are produced from powder: raw material is disintegrated and compressed under high pressure. Extrusion method allows producing tiles from dough-like raw material.

5. Base of Tile, which can be porous and solid. Porosity of material is identified according to property of absorbability: the more it absorbs, the more porous it is.

6. Raw Material. Depending on it, tiles can be light (even white) or colorful. For glazed tiles there is no difference what color of material is used, as it is not seen. But for non-glazed tile material means a lot.
