Linoleum

It is worth noting that what we traditionally call ‘linoleum’ has nothing in common with the name. Translated literally from French, the word ‘linoleum’ means an ‘oiled linen cloth’ and reflects the past tradition of making the first linoleum coverings of natural line. Today the costly line is taken over by cheap polyvinylchloride, but the term is still in use. However, the correct name of linoleum is the ‘PVC floor covering’.

The affordable price and simple laying procedure make linoleum traditionally one of the most popular floor coverings. In the former USSR linoleum covering was the only one used for finishing areas exposed to damp and dirt, such as kitchens, hallways, and public places. Today we choose linoleum when the price of finishing is of primary importance.

Another variant is a so-called business-class linoleum which costs a bit more, but goes well for offices, conference halls and other public places. This type of linoleum has a stylish look and has even glossy options with mirror-like surfaces.

Linoleum laying has rather simple preparation requirements. There is no need in ideally even bed, and it is possible to place new linoleum over an old covering. The laying process takes several hours with special glue used to fix linoleum sheets.
